Avoid Infection With Virus Protection Software

How many hours per day are you on your computer? Really think about this question. Perhaps one, two, or maybe more? I´m not ashamed to admit that I´m on my PC for at least eight hours a day. Yup, that's right, I said at least eight hours each day.

I´m a professional

…OK, the point being, many of us spend our 9 to 5 (or more) shifts Monday - Friday punching away on computers. It´s simply the standard routine of the modern day workplace. A myriad jobs and careers necessarily demand computer work. With that said, the concept to consider is: How often are you exposed? And no, I'm not talking about various flu viruses. I'm talking about viruses you´re saddled with in cyberspace. Do you have updated virus protection software, or are you riding on a wing and a prayer? This crucial question deserves some serious thought.

Why do you need virus protection — anti virus — software you ask? First, let´s consider the Internet. This is where you and most other folks are primarily exposed. Second, even if you´re never online (which I doubt, since you are reading this), if you ever install software, especially games from CD-ROMs, you most definitely need virus protection software.

Most of us love the net-o-sphere and surf it on a daily basis. While we do, our IP address is discoverable by all the hackers out there, our system is vulnerable to spyware, viruses and spam. In order to guard against this garbage, we require powerful and comprehensive virus protection software. This way we can concentrate on the good, while blocking the bad and the ugly.

Some of us still purchase software on "hard" media like CD-ROMs and DVDs. Back in the day, it was almost a given that you would get a virus after installing a game from diskette or disc. While this problem has been minimized by conscientious and vigilant software companies, the threat still exists.

I´ll never forget when, after installing a game, my computer blinked, blue-screened, made a taunting nah-nah sound and displayed: "Your computer is now stoned". My hard drive and RAM were destroyed. A painful and expensive lesson. I've always used anti virus software since that dreadful day.

So, where should you go for quality, comprehensive virus protection software? You can find quality virus protection software at your local computer store, but there's another venue to consider. The Web. You shop in cyberspace, do you not? I'll go ahead and propose that most of us do these days. It's simply a matter of convenience. Where else can we literally find anything we could possibly be looking for? We don't even have to leave the comfort of our favorite chair or sofa.

I recommend Trend Micro Internet Security 2008 — It´s what I use and I have been virus free ever since. The other two major players are: Norton Anti Virus by Symantec and McAfee Anti Virus software.
