High Speed Internet: It's Time

Have you ever thought about how quickly people adapt to a new routine? I changed jobs a few months ago. I had been commuting about an hour each way to get to work. I had to get up at four in the morning, be on the road by five, to get to the office by six. I got off work at three and got back home by four. I worked earlier hours to avoid the rush-hour traffic. With my new job I am only ten miles from home. I have become so used to getting up early that I get laundry done and get a chance to take a walk each morning, and I still get to work by seven. I get off at three and am home by three-fifteen. It feels like part time work because I now have such long evenings. What does this have to do with high speed Internet? Read on.

At my previous job we were allowed to access the Internet for research purposes. It was a large agency so there were a lot of people accessing the Internet at the same time. It was always a very slow process to log on. At my new office there are only two people and we have high speed Internet access. It's unbelievable how quickly I get returns for my searches. I used to log on to the Internet, make a few phone calls and get a cup of coffee while I was waiting to gain access or to retrieve the information that I needed. Now, with high speed Internet I have what I need within seconds of pressing enter. This lets me be more productive, especially if I've got a client sitting at my desk waiting for information. I believe that you actually make up for the cost of high speed Internet service by not having employees waiting for access -- or search results.

My husband and I decided to purchase a home computer. We have resisted doing this for many years because we both log hours of time on computers at work. We were, however, feeling out of the loop with family emails and all the other conveniences that come along with owning a home computer. Not wanting to tie up a phone line, we went with the same high speed Internet service that I have at my office. My husband was really impressed with how fast Web pages open. Recently, my neighbor was over and we were talking about getting tickets for a particular concert. I said that I would pull up the website to research prices and availability. She couldn't believe how quickly I had retrieved the pertinent information. She went straight home and ordered the same high speed Internet service that I have.
